With the Stage 9 victory of Lennard Kämna, who thereby fulfilled his dream of a Grand Tour treble, and the top-10 placing in the GC of Aleks Vlasov and Grand Tour debutant Cian Uijtdebroeks, BORA - hansgrohe draws a positive conclusion after the second week of the Vuelta.
Sports Director Bernie Eisel is satisfied with the way the team has raced so far: “The first two weeks have been quite positive for us. Lenni's victory was of course a highlight and with two riders in the top-10, we are also in a good starting position for the final week of racing. Lenni has ridden a very strong Vuelta so far, and at times also takes on the role of road captain and supports the team where he can. Emanuel Buchmann is proving to be an incredible helper in the mountains, and is up front when we need him to support. Jonas Koch and Nico Denz fulfil a very difficult task, because they have to be ready to go essentially all the time. There is no easy stage for either of them, because on flat stages they are always alongside our captains and then in the high mountains they have to fight their way through. But I have to say that both of them are doing a great job. Sergio is now also finding his legs again and his performance is showing an upwards trend. Aleks was unfortunately suffering from a bit of a cold initially, but is now getting back into the swing of things and is in the top-10 overall. Cian was not quite happy with his result in the time trial, but fought his way into the top-10 in GC with a superb performance on the Tourmalet and we can be very happy with that. All in all, we are quite pleased with how the Vuelta has gone for us so far. There can always be surprises in a race like this, but we are ready for the last week here in Spain.”
